Grobi has nothing to do with his namesake of the sesame street (the german Grover) - except of course for being blue all the time, his looks and his voice. Just kidding. Actually he doesn't look at all like the guy you would imagine when somebody with a nickname like that came along.
Like Bjoern and me he originates from the "bacon belt" of Hamburg, but somehow we never ran into each other that time. He was born on April 21st in 1977 and grew up in Ammersbek. I can imagine his parents being so happy as Grobi took over the evening entertainment with his first music instrument - a plastic harmonium.
When you meet with success so early, you will never forget that. So when he stumbled over rock music the first time in his circle of friends at the Heimgarten-School in Ahrensburg, it did not take a long time until he bought his first electric guitar at the age of 14. Incidentally he learned classic guitar at the Volkshochschule, and at the age of 18 years he founded his first band in his basement, a pure guitar player formation MEN LIKE GODZ.
The following years, when he was fulfilling his community service at the Malteser Racing Service and learning as a carpenter apprentice, Grobi still kept his fingers warm with jam sessions. But another passion was born at that time: If you have been to any Heavy Metal concert in the late Nineties around Hamburg, you must have met Grobi.
Since 2001 he is studying the rich knowledge of the timber industry in Bergedorf and is sailing as often as possible. He loves to smoke his pipe after a good cup of tea and looks like an old sea bear anyway. So he just has to jump into his boat and sail to Sweden to fulfill his big dream: To live as a specialist of timber industry in the land of the elks and blondes. Unless he becomes a rockstar, and that's what is inevitable with us...(by Fiete)
