The city of Husum at the north sea coast seems not to be the place where rock legends begin, at the most poet legends. But Michael is doing his best since his birthday on January 20th, 1973 to disprove this predjudice against his hometown.
Because education does not harm you on your way to become a rockstar (even if you do not need it implicitly), Michael went to the Theodor-Storm-Gymnasium (named after the poet legend, alright) in his spare time. But when he didn't attend school or play soccer, he made his first steps on his way to his vocation with his parents' piano.
At the age of twelve the piano was not loud enough anymore, and it can only be lead back to his good breeding that he found the classical trumpet to be his new favourite instrument. Now his talent could not be ignored anymore, and so he became a member of Schleswig-Holsteins orchestra of wind instruments. Now that's a pretty damn loud environment I can tell you, but when Michael heard Heavy Metal for the first time, he knew instantly that he had to play drums!
To play drums on your own is only half the fun, and so he gathered some long-haired bomb-planters around him to form his first band GEBRUZZEL, who played some proper grind metal, oh yeah, baby. But at the same time he kept to his trumpet and played in a Ska band, and soon hereafter fell in desperate love with punk rock - and discovering soon that it needs only 3 chords to play that kind of music, a guitar was bought.
Around 1992, when graduation, community service and other profane things transitionally became important, he and two friends tried out at the contest "Youth makes music" with their trumpets. They made it to the nationwide competition convivially and made the third place even though they were terribly hung over (from having been at a Bad Religion show the night before).
Being a student of History, Spanish and Journalism in Hamburg since 1994, there was lots of vacation time to spend meaningfully, so Michael worked as a T-Shirt-seller for SNFU from Canada and others. But soon he was going on tour around the world with the CIRCLE JERKS and - BAD RELIGION. When you are a roadie on a punk band tour, you learn to be responsible for everything. So it didn't take long until Michael was doing all kinds of other things like being a stage manager, guitar tech etc.
Finally in 2000 he finished his studies with a master's degree and worked as a production assistant and merchandise-coordinator for bands like GREEN DAY, FURY IN THE SLAUGHTERHOUSE, ALKALINE TRIO and DIE AERZTE. Having much experience in this field, he started his own business with a tour service company.
But you would not know half the man if I did not tell you about his love for soccer (3rd team of St.Pauli right now) and his love for his wife (married since 2001). But alongside he still had time for his own band, for example NOKAN SENSES where he acted as a singer and guitar player until 2001. And finally, in January 2002, he stumbled over our advertisment and quickly showed that he had not forgotten how to play drums. And, which suited the band very much, he knew all Bad Religion songs by heart anyways.
So what can stop Michael on his way to become a rock legend? Neither nazis nor snakebites nor plane crashes were able to do him evil so far, and we are the last who will bar his way!(by Fiete)
