about us
GENERATOR was founded in November 2000 by our old singer Mario, formerly named THE GOVERNMENT. It all began when he gathered two teammates at work around him: Lars and Bjoern, both working with Mario at a well-known digital TV service provider in Hamburg, were good enough at the guitars to fulfill his long conceived dream of founding a BAD-RELIGION-Coverband. But the rhythm section was still missing.
Björn called up his friend Fiete to play bass guitar. Both had played together long ago in nameless schoolbands. The drums were first played by Christian, a guy Mario found in his rooming house. With that lineup we made our first shaky steps, and you can not imagine our pride about having a setlist of nearly eight minutes length on New Year's Eve 2000! A short time later Gunnar took over the drums "for transition" - and stayed for a whole year. In April 2001 we talked Hilke into reinforcing our background vocals, and the repertoire was growing steadily and without stopping.
In June 2001, finally renamed to GENERATOR, we recorded our first song for the Annual Tribute Tape* - "Generator" of course. That was an important milestone for us on our way up to stage. We finally entered stage the first time in October 2001 at the JUZ (Youth Club) Rissen.
More stage appearances were following, but unfortunately setbacks too: We had to find substitutes for Gunnar, Mario and Hilke in early 2002. But we had a lucky escape: First we found Michael, who had been on tour with BAD RELIGION as a roadie and knew all songs back and forth on guitar and drums and who was a good singer in addition. Secondly we got Grobi as the new band leader, who is blessed with a voice that was made for rock'n'roll. With that new lineup we were ready to take on the world!
Since then we have recorded our first demotape with five songs ("Brand New Religion") and have had our first stage appearances with the new lineup. For example the legendary Open-air-bath band contest in Ohlsdorf in summer of 2003, where Grobi passed his baptism of fire flawlessly. To get an impression of the outstanding performance, have a look at our live video.
Since our last stage appearance at the Tipsy Apes Festival we killed our time recording our monster demo Punch Rock Songs, which we were able to complete right at christmas eve. We are looking forward to next year, when we will enter the big stages in Hamburg and surroundings. We might also pack our stuff and go on tour around Germany, rock one or two festivals and enter the stage even in your town ;-)
